The Art Commission Experience

Starts with listening. Ends with something lasting.

  • Step 1: Initial Conversation

We begin in your space, taking in the colors, textures, and light, and identifying the best placement and size for your painting.

Along the way, I'll ask the questions that shape everything: What feeling do you want this piece to evoke? Should it draw you down a hallway, or set the mood for a dining room?

  • Step 2: Concept Development

Once size and price are agreed upon, I collect a 50% deposit to begin. I'll develop preliminary color studies for your review, showing different ways the composition might come to life before anything touches the canvas.

From there, clients are welcome to visit my studio to view the studies and weigh in before I begin the actual painting. Once we're aligned on direction, I start the underpainting. You're always welcome back to watch the process unfold, or I can send photos along the way. Whichever you prefer.

  • Step 3: Creation & Delivery

Once your painting is complete, the remaining balance is due.

At that point, I can also provide a quote for professional framing, delivery, and installation, bringing my design eye to the final presentation. This service is available at additional cost.

Co-Creating Your Artistic Legacy

Your Vision, My Expertise:
A True Creative Partnership

When you commission a piece, you're not just ordering art, you're stepping into a creative process. Many of my clients enjoy watching it unfold, and I welcome that. A trained eye for color, composition, and space means I can honor your aesthetic preferences and the practical needs of your environment, while keeping your vision at the center of every decision.

Each commission moves through genuine conversation, careful concept development, and thoughtful refinement - until the result is art that feels native to your space and true to who you are.

“We had always wanted a Laura Boardman painting, asking her to paint her interpretation of a sunset photograph taken at our Island Park cabin. We were thrilled with her process and rendition of our concept, size and placement in our Salt Lake City home. Laura visited our home to start, upon completion, helped our final framing and hanging of art work.

We are thrilled with the painting as light changes through the day!
